We currently have a park in our community that is not being used by anyone other than pet owners. The lower part of the park is fenced out with gates (which are no longer there).
Currently, pet owners have to keep their dogs on leash and walk them on trails but cannot let them run around in the park due to families and children playing on the upper part of the park. Since, we have a large part of the community with lots of pets; we would like to turn the lower part of the park into Dog Park where they can play off the leash.
Currently, there is no fenced-in area for our furry friends to run freely off-leash and get the proper physical and mental exercise they need. Dog parks are particularly beneficial to urban communities because:
- Exercised dogs are less likely to exhibit destructive behavior
- Socialized dogs make better next door neighbors
- Dogs who socialize at the park are less likely to create a nuisance or bark excessively and they learn good behaviors during these interactions
We the undersigned call the Pittsburg Park and Recreation Board to make the lower Oak Hill Park a safe and secure place for the off-leash dogs and their owners. This area would be beneficial to the dogs because this will be a place for them to get their mental and physical health.
This will also ensure that people who do not wish to be around dogs can enjoy other parts of the park without the interference or having fear of an dog around them.
