At first we want to make it clear that we aren't against any political party and we don't support any political organization either.
India is an Agriculture based country. As of statistics 2020, 41.49% workforce is from Agriculture sector. The fact can’t be ignored that without farmers our existence in the plant is impossible. But the farmers are underpaid and undervalued in our country in every way possible. In every 12 minutes a farmer is committing suicide here. The new ‘Farm Bills 2020’ has put fuel to the fire. We are already experiencing high prices of potato, onion, oilseeds etc.
Farm Bill 2020 is nothing but a horrible bill made in the temple of democracy. It is good for neither the farmers nor the customers. Only giant companies are going to be gainer.
1st Bill namely ‘The Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Service Bill 2020 says that there will be a legal contract between farmers and the contracted companies about what to shown, how much they will be paid etc.
But is it even possible for poor famers to fight a legal battle against giant companies!!!
2nd bill ‘ The Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020’ has ended the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system. (Minimum Support Price is the price at which government purchases crops from the farmers, whatever may be the price for the crops). As a result now farmers are free to sell their products out of registered mandis or APMCs to the other state or any shopping malls, anywhere in higher price.
But the question is, will it impact to the small poor farmers!? They sell their products outside of mandis anyway. Can they bear the high cost of transportation and all. So, only big companies will buy products directly from the farmers in low price and transport anywhere and sell in much higher percentage.
Now the most important bill is the 3rd bill ‘The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020’. By this bill Government has declared 20 products like Potato, Onion, Cereals, edible oilseeds & oils etc as NONESSENTIAL commodities. But can any Indian think his daily diet without abovementioned products? Government has clarified that if the price of such products (Perishable like potato and onion) rise higher than 100% and (Nonperishable like cereals and oils) rise higher than 50%, only then Government would take steps by including those products in Essential commodities list.
But as we know the maximum percentage of Indian population is of lower middle class then how these maximum Indian will tackle such high price!!!
Just think once, farmers will not able to avail the storage facility of their any product. If a company buy maximum storage area of any cold storage, farmers will be forced to sell their products at low rate. After that in time of consuming they will have to buy in larger rate.
As a result farmers have started protest in a few places. We also should do something in our way to support them. Hence I urge you all to sign this petition and show the strength of democracy.
Let’s stand by the farmers and chant:
शुनं वाहाः शुनं नरः शुनं कृषतु लाङ्गलम् ।
शुनं वरत्रा बध्यन्तां शुनमष्ट्रामुदिङ्गय ॥
(Meaning: May the Oxen drawing the Plough bring Welfare and Prosperity to all, May the Farmer driving the Oxen bring Welfare and Prosperity to all, May the Plough making Furrows bring Welfare and Prosperity to all,
May the Strap binding the Plough bring Welfare and Prosperity to all, and May the Goad swinging towards the Oxen bring Welfare and Prosperity to all.)
