We, as concerned residents, believe that permitting an outdoor shooting range would be detrimental and hazardous for the following reasons.
The lot where the new firearms manufacturing facility has been proposed abuts otherwise quiet and safe residential neighborhoods. Outdoor testing of firearms would produce substantial noise. Even with the use of silencers, the decibel level is still comparable to the level of sound created by a jackhammer or a jet plane taking off. This noise is not only unpleasant for current nearby residents, but would also almost certainly affect the property value of their homes and make selling their homes in the future a difficult endeavor.

There are health and safety risks that would accompany an outdoor shooting range as well. The location of the proposed facility is located diagonally across the street from a children's summer camp. Even when precautions are taken, there is risk of injury from stray bullets as was seen in April of 2017 when a stray bullet supposedly from the range at Sig Sauer Academy in Epping, New Hampshire struck a vehicle traveling on Route 101. Although investigators could not confirm that the bullet was from the academy, they did confirm that rounds from the academy were indeed falling onto Route 101.

Additionally, the lead from the ammunition poses a toxic threat to our community as most if not all residential dwellings in the area operate off of private well systems which depend on clean groundwater. Ecosystems in the wetland area of the lot could suffer from lead poisoning as well. There are no EPA regulations in place to prevent such lead contamination from taking place.

We, the undersigned neighbors, adjoining landowners, and concerned residents of Brentwood, New Hampshire oppose the outdoor shooting range that would potentially accompany the proposed new firearms manufacturing facility on parcel 88, Route 125; Tax Map 217 Lot 024. We therefore call to the town planning board to disallow outdoor shooting abilities at this location.
