In accordance with Act No. 149, Public Acts of 2007. Approved by the Governor December 13, 2007. Filed with the Secretary of State December 13, 2007. EFFECTIVE DATE: December 13, 2007. STATE OF MICHIGAN 94TH LEGISLATURE. REGULAR SESSION OF 2007. ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 593, Part 131. (BODY ART FACILITIES), Sec. 13102. Effective January 1, 2009.
The State of Michigan will require all Body Art Facilities, Tattoo Artists, Body piercers, and Body modification artists to pay a registration and licensing fee of $500.00 for an initial 3 (three) year license, and a fee of $300.00 for every 3 (three) year license thereafter.
These registration fees will be collected on top of licensing fees currently being assessed and collected by local jurisdictions, and counties throughout the State of Michigan.
We, the undersigned, call on Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, State of Michigan Legislative branch, and State of Michigan Executive branch to IMMEDIATELY repeal the law requiring payment of a $500.00 registration fee for an initial 3 year license and a $300.00 renewal fee for subsequent 3 year licenses for Body Art Facilities, Tattoo Artists, Body Piercers, and Body Modification Artists.
We do believe the Body Modification Industry requires oversight by the state and local government to ensure safe practices, but FIRMLY believe that such fees being collected on top of fees assessed on a yearly basis through individual counties are an unfair and unnecessary cost to the HARDWORKING, TAX PAYING citizens of the State of Michigan who choose Body Modification as a profession.
