Can sexual predators/offenders be rehabilitated?
Is it fair that a sexual predator/offender is given a light sentence as opposed to the life sentence their victims are handed down - with NO PAROLE.
Victims of sexual offences never recover from their ordeals. They live with depression, low self esteem and various other issues. This is all the consequence of being targeted by a predators (usually someone the family trusts) or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
NO PAROLE FOR SEXUAL OFFENDERS!!!!!
As a survivor of rape as a 12 year old by my tennis coach I made history in South Africa as the first historical rape case and obtained a guilty verdict against my perpertrator. Bob Hewitt, winner of several Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments, after a mere 2 years of serving his sentence put in an application for parole, which was later changed to an application for sentence conversion to house arrest. I was successful and he has remained in prison for one more year. At just 50% of his 6 year sentence Bob Hewitt will apply for parole, in September 2019, with no thought given to the life sentence I was handed down by him with NO PAROLE. He has yet to show any remorse and I feel very strongly that he is not rehabilitated and never will be. I have often said that I would rather be dead than have to live with the issues the trauma left me with. Every day is hard work. I live with depression, low self esteem, an auto immune disease caused by trauma, constant pain, an inability to have normal relationships and some....
I am one of millions of survivors of sexual abuse. I am one of millions of survivors of a heinous crime handed down by a person who felt it was their human right to violate me, violate my life.
I played an instrumental role in having the Statute of Limitations removed in South Africa and I would like to play a role in ensuring that victims are given the best closure possible. Many victims are very seldom not even aware that their perpertrator is back in society, possibly abusing and violating others, possibly handing down life sentences to others; until one day they inadvertently find out and their lives are shattered all over again.
Do you believe that a person who sexually abuses a child, rapes a child or an adult, hands down a life sentence to that person for simply being alive and in the wrong place at the wrong time deserves parole on the already light sentences they receive in this country? If not please sign my petition. Help me help others. Help me create a deterrent for sexual offenders by changing the law that a sentence handed down to a sexual offender does not include parole. These vile human beings should rot in jail and never see the light of day again.
