The Welsh Assembly Government is planning to build a six lane motorway from Magor to Castleton, across the Gwent Levels. This would:
- destroy wildlife
- ruin an historic landscape
- increase greenhouse gas emissions
- lower local quality of life
- cost millions of pounds

We, the undersigned, believe that a motorway across the Gwent Levels would damage important wildlife sites, destroy quality of life and sense of place for local residents, and contradict the Assembly Government’s own commitments to tackle climate change and halt biodiversity loss.
We therefore call upon the Welsh Assembly Government to drop the plans for the new M4 and to seek a sustainable solution to south east Wales’ transport issues.
Yr ydym ni, sydd wedi llofnodi isod, yn credu y byddai traffordd ar draws Gwastatiroedd Gwent yn niweidio safleoedd bywyd gwyllt pwysig, yn dinistrio ansawdd bywyd ac ymdeimlad o le i drigolion lleol, ac yn mynd yn groes i ymrwymiad Llywodraeth y Cynulliad ei hun i ddelio â newid hinsawdd a cholledion bioamrywiaeth. Yr ydym felly yn galw ar Lywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru i ollwng y cynlluniau ar gyfer yr M4 newydd ac i chwilio am ateb cynaladwy i ofynion trafnidiaeth de ddwyrain Cymru.
