Cocke County, TN has 3 Moonshine Distilleries. A Fourth Moonshine Distillery, Hatfield and McCoys Distillery, is asking for funding from Cocke County which would be used along with matching funds from the City of Newport, toward renovating the former Ratliff Lumber buildings, located at Cosby Highway and Main Street, in Newport, TN.
The renovation would result in the distillery's world headquarters, a 15,000-square foot building, being across from Feed My Sheep Ministries. Established in 2002 and at the current location since 2004, FMS provides meals, food boxes, clothing, and church services to the area's needy, many of whom battle alcoholism.
A distillery located across from FMS would have a long-lasting, negative impact on the ministry and human beings ensnared by alcohol.
We, the undersigned, call on the Cocke County Legislative Body, to deny all financial support, including matching funding and tax increment funding, to Hatfield and McCoys Distillery's proposed world headquarters, near Feed My Sheep Ministry at Cosby Highway and Main Street.
