It is proposed that the dept of commerce is planning to deregulate hours in the retail sector. The motor trades and motor vehicle industry will fall under this category.
The deregulation of hours in the motor trades industry will mean that employees in this sector will be required to work more hours than currently required.
In particular the inclusion of, but not restricted to all day Saturday trading and Sunday trading also.
The motor industry currently trades 5 and a half days a week, from 8.00 until 18.00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8.00 until 21.00 Wednesdays and 8.00 until 13.00 on Saturdays.
As it stands today, before the deregulation of hours, this equate to a person in the motor industry, for example a sales consultant at a dealership, working 58 hours a week.
We, the members of the motor trades industry, motor trades association and the general public call on the dept of commerce to keep the hours of the motor trades regulated in accordance with safe and fair work place in Australia.
We believe the hours currently used by the motor trades industry are fair and give both the employees and the consumers using this facility adequate opportunity to conduct business.
We believe that many professionals that have being in our industry for many years will change to a different industry, which will dramatically change the quality of service to the consumer.
We, the members of the motor trades industry, motor trades association and the general public strongly oppose the introduction of deregulated hours for the industry.
