In a classroom setting a group of 30 students merged minds and discovered an issue that was prevalent in their community they felt obligated to address. After we spent several hours deliberating the different issues that go unnoticed in our neighborhood Jackson Heights, we came to the conclusion that animal welfare and abuse was our project or calling for the year.
Shortly after, we discovered the New York Protects our Animal Companions Act (NY PAC Act/Bill S7415C), which requires the prevention of illegal vending or leasing of companion animals by 1. Preventing the predatory practice that preys on those who can’t always afford a companion animal 2. Protecting against high interest leasing agreements that would require payment for months on end while 3. Keeping a family from going broke by caring for the animal as they are paying interest for their purchase, forcing the vendors to legally own the dog until all leasing terms are met. Lastly number with number 4. Protecting puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs from these illegal transactions.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to bring to the floor and
vote in favor of Bill S7415C...
