The shroud of turin often labeled as the most studied artifact in history, had been subject to an extensive round of testing more than 30 years ago. In 1988, 3 different labs came up with a 14th century date for the cloth using radioactive carbon dating technique, implying it is of medieval origin.
Recently the reliability of the samples used in those tests, has come into question.
While the debate and controversy over how the image in the shroud was created may never settle, the issue with the date can at least be put to rest by performing another proper test.
We, the undersigned, call on the custodian of the shroud of turin to allow for a second round of tests using modern scientific techniques.
