More than 40% of Americans don't read books, according to the National Endowment for the Arts. The NATIONAL READ-IN PETITION urges President & Mrs. Obama to choose books and discuss them with Americans, because reading unlocks doors.

Dear President Obama and Mrs. Obama:
Please hold "National Read-Ins” twice each year, once for adults and once for children, when you would choose a book that you would ask Americans to read.
You would then discuss the book on a Sunday night: the National Read-Ins would combine the best of FDR’s fireside chats and “Oprah’s Book Club.”
We also urge you to increase funding for America's public libraries, and involve them in the National Read-Ins. That way, you would get more Americans to read, or to read more -- and reading unlocks doors.
