Only 9% of seats changed hands at the last UK General Election. It is currently estimated that a minimum of 50% of seats in the 2010 election are safe and will not change.
The current Government received 55% of the seats in 2005 yet only 23% of the electoral vote. If you live in a safe seat and do not vote for the sitting MP, your vote is effectively wasted. Such elections are not fit for purpose and as such we need to change the system.
Catherine Brown, Parliamentary Reform Party
We believe that the first past the post electoral system used to elect the UK Parliament does not lead to a representative system.
Marginal seats disproportionately affect the election result and safe seats are often ignored. In short, most votes in the UK don't count.
