I have actively been trying to find childcare for a long period of time and have my child's name down at every childcare in Port & South.
I have been placed on extended waiting lists with a minimum of 6 months.
Feed back received is that centres have been struggling with finding suitable staff and or physical space.
As a working family if we are unable to find suitable child care in the coming months, one member of the family will have to either drop hour significantly or cease employment. This is the concern of a lot of family in town.
Hedland is a working community and one of the richest towns in Australia, not having suitable childcare for majority of the work force and people wanting to work seems laughable.
We want to highlight how many working families are struggling to find adequate childcare in Hedland.
We the Undersigned have and or are experiencing major barriers in finding adequate childcare, including but not limited to ;
-Extended waiting periods 6 months or more
- Suitable arrangements for families working on rosters and shift work
- Weekend coverage (shift work)
- non traditional days due to shift work (1-3 days a week)
- employment opportunities have been limited due to adequate childcare availability/options
