Our state currently does not have a location to honor all of the fallen of Minnesota- there are memorials specific to various wars, scattered throughout the state. While these memorials contain the names of our heroes, they are lacking personalization- the essence of each unique individual and their own personal story. Also missing is the visual element- what does a hero look like?
Memorials are a good start, but our heroes deserve so much more than that. A museum combining the stories, photos, and memorabilia of each, would bring these heroes to life for generations to come. These contributions would show who these heroes were- and how many families turned tragedy into triumph – by reaching out to others in need and becoming heroes in their own right.
In addition, the effect of seeing how many of our own gave their lives for freedom would be imbedded in the psyche, reminding us that freedom, indeed, is not free.
It is important for society to never forget the immeasurable cost of our freedoms. Even now with our nation at war, many remain impassive to news of another young life tragically cut short. This museum would serve as a meaningful educational tool for all ages- as so few Americans are directly affected by a family member serving, many do not understand the burdens and sacrifices of military families.
This museum would also honor our law enforcement and firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
We, the undersigned, would like to see a Museum for the Fallen built in St Cloud MN.
This museum would honor all of our Minnesota military fallen, as well as law enforcement and firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
It is important for us, and for future generations to remember the sacrifices of our heroes, and to remember the true cost of freedom.
