We are insisting that the elected and appointed officials of this district implement a mask requirement for the Students, Teachers, and Staff in an effort to prevent the continued spread of Covid-19, and follow the strategies issued by the CDC, putting the Heath and Safety of this community first. Our children should not be collateral damage for politicizing their health and safety.
Families need reassurance their children will be provided a safe learning environment until this pandemic is manageable via vaccine for ALL ages.
Personal political perspectives should not play into the safety of children, some of which are not currently eligible for the Covid Vaccine. 38,000 elementary students wishing KatyISD are ineligible for an alternative source of protection against Covid-19, and are defenseless without a mask requirement in place. The time to act is now. Prevention is key. We are asking you to do the right thing and protect this community from the spread of Covid by implementing a mask requirement immediately.

Both Fort Bend County and Harris County have raised the Covid-19 threat level to the highest level, RED. Both counties are seeing substantial transmission throughout the communities. In order to mitigate the risks associated with the significant and sustained transmission of COVID-19, both Counties have issued Mask Mandates.
Harris County has been granted a temporary restraining order pausing Gov. Abbott’s order on banning mask mandates. The temporary restraining order allows Harris County and local school districts within Harris County to enact masking requirements for students and employees. Harris Counties mask mandate applies to all students, employees, and visitors — regardless of vaccination status.
Fort Bend County has also reinstated indoor mask order after a judge grants a temporary restraining order against Gov. Abbott’s mask mandate.
In an open letters from Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, the Biden administration condemned the orders from Govs. Greg Abbott, which contravene public health guidance from the CDC. Cardona also noted that federal COVID-19 relief funds for schools could be used to fill any financial gaps caused by penalties imposed on local school districts by state leaders, and for conducting contact tracing.
The opening of schools without masks, or proper strategies in place, has proven to be disastrous, forcing shutdowns within days in states like Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and now in districts across Texas.
