It is my understanding that the University of Maryland has refused to provide Scout.Com with press credentials to cover the University's sports programs.
The goal of this petition is to assist Scout.Com in obtaining these press credentials.
As an alumni, fan and/or financial supporter of the University of Maryland and a loyal fan of the Terrapins athletics program, I seek first-rate coverage of the University’s sports programs. It is my understanding, however, that the University has refused to provide Scout.Com -- an internet sports news network owned by Fox Sports and subscribed to by thousands of people -- with press credentials allowing Scout.Com’s reporters access to the University’s coaches and players during games and practices.
It is also my understanding that the University has provided these same press credentials to numerous other news mediums, including newspapers, television stations, radio stations and sports websites. I’m familiar with Scout.Com’s coverage of the University’s sports programs and believe it is doing a first-rate, professional job providing this coverage. Nevertheless, as I’m sure you can understand, this coverage is hampered by the lack of access to the University’s coaches and players -- with the ultimate beneficiary of improving this coverage being the University’s alumni, fans and friends.
Given the above, I, the undersigned, request that you look into this matter and initiate whatever action is necessary to provide Scout.Com with the press credentials that the University has provided to numerous other news mediums to cover the University’s sports programs. I believe it’s the right thing to do for the alumni, fans and friends of the University.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
