As with various other established Olympic sports such as Gymnastics, Martial Arts musical forms entail a disciplined approach to training, performance & execution within the competition environment.
In addition, Musical forms fall into an ‘Open’ martial arts style event to enable all styles of martial arts to compete within them. Hard style musical forms competitors may have a background in one of the many hard style martial arts such as Karate,Tae Kwon Do,Kick Boxing etc whereas Soft Style divisions are for soft style Martial artists such as Wushu Kung Fu.
This discipline adopts the non contact side of the martial art to run similar to that of Gymnastic floor exercise whereby competitors are Judged on: Difficulty (both gymnastic & martial arts),Martial arts basics,Strength,Balance,Time restrictions and Overall fluidity of technique.
The sport already has a well established National, European & World championship status and consists on a large number of participants around the world who compete regularly where the largest events are televised annually on sports channels such as ESPN.
To have this sport included as an Olympic recognised sport would cover a large number of martial arts disciplines within one event as opposed to solely one style of martial art being considered for future events. The sport is also accessible to all people of various backgrounds and incomes so is an ideal discipline for children and adults alike unlike many sports events where only the people with the appropriate funds may take part.
