The school of George Washington Middle School is one of the many middle schools all over the globe that use styrofoam trays at lunchtime. These trays are recyclable but none of the students bother to put the trays in the recycling bins that are already full of empty bottles and cans and are way to small to fit the trays too.
The styrofoam is not biodegradable and will stay in the landfills for a while and that is not right! The school needs to change!
We, the undersigned, call on the Wayne Board of Education to stop using the terrible styrofoam trays that are currently used at all the school in the Wayne school system, targeting George Washington Middle School.
We don't think that the school should be overflowing landfills with more than 200 styrofoam trays per day and causing a ton of trouble for mother nature and the earth we live on. We suggest that we should use plastic trays and paper plates that should be recycled by the students or biodegradable trays such as the ones from Biosphere Industries. If the students throw those away, they will decompose more easily then the styrofoam trays.
By switching to biodegradable trays we will set an example for all the schools in the state and they will possibly switch to a more environmentally friendly lunch tray. It is time to change and think about the environment in all things we use daily.
