Every year 6-8 million cats and dogs are taken into animal shelters, yet only 3-4 million leave alive and find homes. That is only half the number that go in. The remaining 3-4 million are euthanised even though they are perfectly healthy.
Creating a law to enforce owners to desex their pets, with the exception of those who hold a breeding permit and those who are registered breeders, will stop the births of unwanted puppies and kittens and stop the need to euthanise healthy animals.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Australian Government to create and enforce this law, to stop unwanted births of puppies and kittens and the subsequent euthanasia of healthy animals.
