Everybody knows that the cost of housing is out of control because of all the people moving here. There are simply more people than there are places to live.

It's gotten so bad that many Idahoans are getting priced out of their own state. In fact, the average wage in Kootenai County is $25,190 but the median price of a house in Coeur d'Alene is $438,000. This cannot go on.

Especially when they move here and then vote for higher taxes - which are still less than they paid in California.

Simply banning growth is not legal nor good for our economy. So what can we do instead?

We can take away some of the incentive to move here.

We can make Californians, and everyone who is moving here, pay California taxes for 5 years so that it becomes less attractive to move here.

Plus, the extra income (which will be levied in a series of annual impact fees) would pay for the growth and infrastructure that we need to support the population growth. The extra schools, police, and roads will be paid for by the people moving here - who made that work necessary in the first place.

We, the undersigned, call on the Idaho State Legislature to amend the Idaho Tax Code such that persons moving from Californian and Washington must pay the tax amount equivalent to the tax burden that would be levied on them by the state of California for five years in order to promote manageable and self-sustaining growth in our local communities, unless such persons had been born in Idaho.
