Does Indian Trail need to extend our contract for law
enforcement services with the Union County Sheriff's
Office (UCSO)?
- Indian Trail residents said YES. The results of a
2008 Town wide survey revealed that Indian Trail residents
are satisfied with the service provided by the Sheriff’s Office
with over 90% of respondents calling for an increase in the
number of Sheriff Deputies. - An independent study said YES. In 2008, a valid and
unbiased UNC Charlotte study investigated the advantages
and disadvantages of establishing an independent police
department. They reported that an independent police
department for the Town of Indian Trail would be cost
prohibitive (raise taxes by more than 100%) and would not
guarantee better service. - The Public Safety Committee said YES. In 2009, this
committee, established by the Town Council recommended
the continuation of its current contract with
UCSO.
We the undersigned residents and registered voters of Indian
Trail, NC, urge the Town Council to continue the contract
with the Union County Sheriff’s Office for the current 5-year
contract that expires in 2013 and to extend and expand it as
needed.
