October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In the past, there was a great deal of shame surrounding breast cancer.
Because breast cancer affected what was considered a "private part" so closely associated to sexuality, maternity and feminine identity, women were ashamed to publicly divulge their diagnoses or be examined and diagnosed at all not to mention the high cost of mammogram.
Many women suffered in silence with a deadly disease they considered expensive and shameful.
Let's all stand up for breast cancer by having our annual mammograms and sono mammograms. I would like to make a petition to lower the cost of mammogram. I hope you can help me by signing the petition too.
An early detection is the key here it means better chance of survival.
Breast cancer is the leading killer of women ages 30-55 worldwide. More than a million women develop without knowing it and almost 500,000 women die from it every year. 1 out of 13 Filipino women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
The Philippines has the highest incidence rate of breast cancer in Asia and registered the highest increase of 589% among 187 countries over a 30 year period from 1980-2010 based on the latest research of Philippine Breast Cancer Network.
EARLY DETECTION DOES NOT PREVENT BREAST CANCER BUT IT GIVES BETTER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL RATE.
Thus by increasing the awareness, We, the undersigned, call the attention of Department of Health to lower the cost of mammogram and sono mammogram in private hospitals and give free mammograms and sono mammograms in government hospitals.
