I am a mother to my son who is 5, he has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy and this year his funding has been stopped for the moment. The reason his funding has stopped for a one to one carer in mainstream school is because they are saying his educational needs are too high.
this does not mean he doesn't need physical and emotional support, he cannot go the toiliet by himself, or sometimes feed himself, he is mobile in a walker yet cannot walk far and uses a wheelchait every day too. He also needs daily physio too which is run through school and a lot more also to do with physical support. It has came to my attention it is not just my Son funding that has stopped but has happened across the board.
This has concerned me because if there is no fundig to support him in a mainstream school and is too bright to be put in a school for special needs, he will revert. As a parent i am aski g for people to make a stand for all children that want to learn, able to learn, cope with the learning to sign this petition that changes the specification of criteria to meet funding requirements for a one to one, it may be just money to the educational authorities yet to parents and the childre affected mostly its their life, its about their start in life too...their rights as a child willing to learn yet no support in the system for them.
We as a community through this petion call on the Educational and health authority to rewrite their criteria for one to one support to children that need extra care and not just base it on their educational levels yet also look into physical help that is needed in some cases.
