Caedence, a 4th grader at Hoover Elementary, recently wrote an argumentative essay regarding the lack of time Students are given to eat their lunch.
Students at Hoover Elementary are only allotted 15 minutes to eat. They are expected to get to the lunchroom, go through the lunch line, and eat their food, all within 15 minutes. They are then given 15 minutes for recess.
Not only can eating too quickly lead to digestive problems, it is a contributing factor to obesity. It takes approximately 20 minutes for the brain to send signals of fullness, therefore causing overeating.
Children at the school complain that some days, they only have enough time to take a few bites of their lunch. For some children, school lunch is the only decent meal, or only meal at all, they receive during the day.
Help Caedence petition the Crawfordsville School's to change their policy to allow Student's ample time to eat their lunch.
We ask that all schools in the Crawfordsville School Corporation modify their schedules to allow students ample amount of time to eat their lunch.
