In the London South-East postcodes travel options have been narrow historically due to geology factors. However improvements and innovation in tunnelling have now removed these constraints.
We, the signers, would like to petition Transport for London and the Government to provide an underground link to Croydon via Upper Norwood - with a station sited at Crown Point.
Upper Norwood is an area of high population density which is served by a good network of buses.
However both the centre of the Capital and Croydon require a mobile workforce which is able to move speedily and efficiently around London and Greater London.
An extension of the Victoria line from Brixton through Tulse Hill up to Upper Norwood, then through to Thornton Heath to Croydon via Purley would link many high density populations, providing an additional travel option to improve mobility efficiencies and reduce car miles.
This adjunct to the bus network would give Londoner's in the south-east postcodes a 21st century transport system which has been lacking.
The improvement in the transport infrastructure would increase business efficiency and improve access to leisure activities whilst reducing car miles and the concomitant problem of air pollution in London.
It is believed that the nature of the geology in this region of London has hitherto prevented tunnelling - however we believe that these constraints have now disappeared due to technological improvements.
We also believe that the initial capital outlay would be returned in a very short time for this type of infrastructure improvement and a cost benefit analysis would prove this beyond doubt.
