With the new Maplewood skatepark becoming one of the most popular skateparks in St. Louis, time is cut short for many skaters due to the sun going down. Many kids and adults are unable to go during the day due to work and school. Growing up in and graduating from Maplewood - Richmond Heights, I have spent many nights playing soccer and skateboarding at the hockey rink right across the parking lot. The hockey rink happens to have two lights to light it up during the night. The Maplewood skatepark, being the size it is, would only need one light to successfully light the entire skatepark. The light can turn off around 10 p.m., the same time the hockey rink lights turn off. There is also plenty of extra space in the dirt surrounding the skatepark to put the light in. This skatepark has helped the St. Louis skateboarding community grow tremendously, bringing people of all ages, races, and sizes together. We just want more time to do what we love and do it in a safe place.
With your name on this petition, you will help skateboarders across St. Louis have more time to practice and do what they love in a safe place by asking the Maplewood City Council to install a light for the skatepark.
