Greeting from Japan to the world colleagues who loves Bonsai & Suiseki.

My name is Takashi (Tom) Nishiyama, 78 years old man, lives in Ai-chi Pref.

It's been more than 50 years since I started Suiseki hobby.

In 2020. the spread of Corona virus has had an impact of our cultural activities. Hoping for an early end of this "crisis".

I am very happy that I was able to approach colleagues in Whole Word for the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage registration activities of Bonsai /Suiseki culture, which I proposed seven years ago.

Our Bonsai/Suiseki hobby is relatively popular among the elderly. Younger generation don't show much interest. As long as it is a personal hobby, there is nothing to be said for it.

But from the point of view of protecting culture, we must recognize that we are in a "crisis" right now. Hobby is disappearing in one generation, but culture must be eternal.

In the aging society, it is difficult to find successors to inherit the culture of Bonsai/Suiseki.

This is the motivation that started the Project.

Registration to UNESCO is an honor and attractive destination, but that is not the final goal.

That is to protect the culture.

It is our responsibility to do. And Signature activities do not indicate the magnitude of power, but those that broadly deepen the understanding of society.

We are aiming to win 100 000 signatures (Accumulated signatures: 32,546 as of Nov.2020). Thank you for your tremendous support.
