Let's Make Canada Safer by Increasing Life Sentences

After doing research on Canada's Life Expectancy Age, research indicated by Vital Statistics Canada that life expectancy age hits 80.4 years, this was reported January, 2008. Here in Canada our Government and Justice System says life is 25 years, even this is untrue.

Murderers today are getting released from prison earlier and earlier all the time. There are so many rights for criminals and none for victims. HOW IS THIS A DETERENT?

My name is Janet Morrissette on August 15, 1992 my family & I became victims. My 5 year old daughter born mute & deaf was abducted, assaulted and brutually murdered, thrown in a garbage dumpster. The accused was a 36 year old man. He was orginally charged with 1st degree murder but plea bargained for 2nd degree murder. He was sentenced to LIFE, NO PAROLE FOR 20 YEARS.

June 18, 2008, my family & I were revictimized by the accused, the National Parole Board and our Government. The accused applied for parole. the hearing set for July 17, 2008. All of the accused rights had to be met, he needed my family's and my victims impact statements 15 days prior to the hearing, I am not able to receive anything about the accused, but yet he has the right to know everything about us before hearing. My family and I had to go ahead with making all the arrangements to attend the hearing which was 4000 miles away. Days before the hearing the accused cancelled, with the right to reschedule.

I know I am not alone, there is many, many victims, with all rights going to the criminal, victims are revictimized over and over having to relive the tragedy, going to parole hearings trying to oppose the early release of the criminal.

THE NATIONAL PAROLE BOARDS STATISTICS FOR EARLY RELEASE IS 91% IN FAVOR FOR THE CRIMINALS. HOW ABSURD?? With murderers getting released from prison so early how is this a deterent? It is not, it is a mere holiday, murderers are young enough to be released and reoffend again and again. Therefore I am asking for your support in having 1st and 2nd degree convicted murderers LIFE SENTENCES BE SIMILAR TO THE UNITED STATES. THAT WHEN CONVICTED OF 1ST OR 2ND DEGREE MURDER THAT SENTENCES SHOULD BE 75 YEARS WITH NO PAROLE WHAT SO EVER FOR 35 YEARS. This would be a DETERENT.
