Having rescued many lost trail users, and hearing time and again how difficult it is to find your way around this lovely park, I am motivated to start this petition...
There are NO meaningful trail markers in this park and that is chasing away people who would love to use it! The park is located close to densely populated areas. There is no reason for its low level of use (as evidenced by the limited number of cars at the trailheads) other than the obvious fact that people cannot find their way around. The park has always been a mecca for hunters, but its time the rest of us got our share!
Volunteer groups have offered and are still available to do trail marking work. We need the park manager and his supervisor to step up and make this fabulous public asset - public! by creating a meaningful trail marking system.
In addition, sections of trail are impassable due to downed trees and overgrowth. Trails are precious, and allowing them to lapse into disarray is disturbing. Again, volunteers will glad to help but they must be welcomed and coordinated.
So, primarily -- TRAIL MARKERS so visitors feel welcome and invite their friends (the exact opposite happens when people find themselves lost on unmarked trails). Keeping trails open and passable -- that is the purpose of this petition.
Please install clear and legible trail signs and markers for all of the trails in Evansburg Park to create a usable system for the public it serves. Please allow and coordinate volunteers if necessary to get this job done!
Please provide maintenance and/or coordinate volunteers to open obstructed trails.
