On January the 20th 2008, Brighton and Hover city Council decided to close the extremely well known and credited ‘Legal graffiti’ approach to Graffiti Art in Tarner Park, Brighton.
The park has worked well and been a fantastic facility for resident and visiting graffiti ARTISTS from all over the world for twenty years.
The closure of this park for legal graffiti by Brighton and Hove City council has now put the thousands of privately owned residents and business at risk of vandalism due to the substantial amount of Graffiti artists who reside in and around Brighton or pass through on a regular basis (who previously were attracted by the Legal walls). It is surely the responsibility of Brighton & Hove City council to work for the improved quality of life for it residents?
Tarner Park is the most recent of Legal Graffiti spot closures in a long line over the past few years including Davigdor, Hove, the Moon and Blackrock.
This means the only place left to paint legally for Graffiti Artists in Brighton is the Level Skate Park and rumour has it the council is withdrawing permission from there too soon.
By signing this petition you are stating you object to the unannounced closure of such important, historic and cultural centre of creativity, recognizing the fact it will inevitably lead to greater amount of vandalism being committed in and around the City at cost of the tax payer to foot the bill for clean-up operations.
Please reconsider your actions to terminate (unannounced) Tarner from being Graffiti Legal and leave future consideration up to those who frequent the facilities and primarily the good people of Brighton & Hove.
Yours faithfully, the undersigned:
