Beginning in spring of 2000, no 4th-grade or 8th - grade student could be promoted if he or she did not achieve Approaching Basic or above on either part of the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program for the 21st Century(LEAP21).

Beginning on spring 2004, 4th grade students will be required to score Basic or above on either English Language Arts or the Mathematics test and Approaching Basic or above on the other to progress to the 5th grade.

In 2006 8th grade students will be required to score Basic or above on both English Language Arts or the Mathematics test and Approaching Basic or above on the other to progress to the 9th grade. This test is causing to many students to suffer from stress, anxiety and depression. The LEAP test should not be a determine factor on whether or not a child remains in the 4th or 8th grade.

Too many of our children are failing this test and teachers should be held accountable for our children not being taught the materials needed for mastery of such test. Stop the madness, teacher should constantly review and teach these materials continually.

Too many teachers wait until the month before the test to review what should have been taught through out the year and previous years. Some teacher could care less whether the children learn what is being taught.

The LEAP if at all should be used as a tool to figure out what is not being taught in public schools. Our children should not be punished for lack of knowledge, especially if it is not being taught.

Too many students are failing the L.E.A.P test!

This test should not determine whether our children pass or fail.
