Kenya Deserves a Lean and Clean Cabinet

One key promise by the then Narc government was a lean and an efficient cabinet. That was never to be, as political patronage and sycophancy took center stage. This spawned to the usual horse trading and creation of a bloated cabinet to reward cronies and family members at the behest of a wolf in a sheep’s skin government.

Prior to the botched elections, all key contenders for the top seat promised lean and clean cabinet with less government expenditure. Where are the promises Messrs Kibaki and Raila? Has ravenousness for power blinded you? What about trimming the cabinet to 12 ministries and spend the surplus on resettling IDPs, creation of jobs, revamping the infrastructure, better salaries for the poor but assiduous civil servants instead of feeding the fat cats? Or even provide clean water for the masses, affordable healthcare, quality education etc.

Can Kenya afford forty ministers with their attendant emoluments? This distended government is obviously ineffectual in its performance and service delivery and a saddle to the taxpayers. It’s such a pain in the wrong places. Can we afford to take our beloved country the Sri Lanka way.

We should not laugh at our brothers in Zimbabwe, where inflation is at all time high because Kenya is slipping in that direction. The common mwananchi is languishing in abject penury but Mr Moneybags smiles his way to the bank after cashing on Anglofleecing among other corruption scandals.

Wake up Kibaki! Wake Raila! Kenya is bleeding and this ain’t right.
