There are no trails in Rockland County, NY to take your dog off leash for some much needed exercise. This is due to an outdated regulation that does not meet its stated purpose to protect others in the park. Our neighbors in Westchester serve as an example that will balance public safety and freedom to allow dogs to roam. The only restrictions in the 126 acre Gedney Park in Chappaqua include:
-Dogs are NEVER permitted in playground areas
-Dogs are NEVER permitted on ball fields
-Dogs MUST be under voice and visual control at all times EVEN when off leash on the trails in our parks
-No one may walk more than three dogs at any time in any of our Town Parks
These regulations should be adopted in the Kennedy Dells Trails. This would still promote safety and public health, while not restricting citizens’ freedom to responsibly let their dog roam.
