This petition protests New York's replacement of the current Empire State license plate, beginning in April 2010.
Gov. Paterson originally proposed replacing the NY plate solely to charge New York motorists a new $25 fee, to help close the State's budget deficit. When County Clerks lead protests against the new plate and fee, he dropped the fee, but has begnu issuing the new -- and ugly -- "Empire Gold" plate, with its garish colors and design.
NY GOV. PATERSON:
KEEP THE PL8 4 THE STATE!
WE THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK demand that Gov. David Paterson keep the current blue and white "Empire State" New York license plate, with its clever, and legible, design.
WE are distressed that the new "Empire Gold" plate design is garish and ugly -- and unnecessary.
WE are distressed that the "Empire Gold" plate was designed in secret, and we demand that New Yorkers vote, online, to determine whether to keep the blue and white "Empire State" plate or switch to the "Empire Gold" plate.
WE demand that Gov. Paterson keep the current plate design, and use the "Empire Gold" plates already manufactured as a limited issue optional plate, available for an extra fee. This would make NYS money, and would keep the current plate, which is one of the best in the USA!
WE also demand that Gov. Paterson direct the DMV to actively promote and market vanity plates, which would raise new revenue.
