One of her killers, Anthony Dudson, could be freed from prison on a temporary licence within weeks.

And two other killers, Jean Gillespie – formally Powell – and Bernadette McNeilly, have been granted leave to have the lengths of their minimum sentences reviewed at the Court Of Appeal in June next year.

All three were jailed for life after 16-year-old Suzanne, from Moston, was held captive and brutally tortured over seven days in 1992 at a house.

She was then driven to woods in Werneth Low, near Stockport, doused in petrol and set on fire. Suzanne died four days later.

It is appalling, given the horrific nature of the murder carried out, that these people are being considered for parole. life should mean life.

"These people should never go free." Dudson, now 34 but aged 16 at the time, was ordered to spend a minimum of 16 years behind bars before he could apply for parole.

He will be able to apply for day release and ‘short-term visits in the community’ from May.

Both Gillespie and McNeilly were told they would have to serve a minimum of 25 years. They are not eligible for parole until December 2017 but could be released earlier.

This poor vulnerable young woman was subjected to horrendous torture, shown no mercy or compassion, those responsible should never be released.

We the undersigned call on The Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke to refuse the applications of Suzanne Capper's killers to have their minimum sentences reviewed. We feel as a community that the sentence served should be reflective of the justice metered out at the time of trial.

Suzanne's family should be assured that the loss of their loved one is still very much a matter for atonement.
