It has recently come to our attention that 60 acres of property has been purchased to turn into a residential development. Most of the plans remain undisclosed at this time, however here's what what we do know from being able to observe a copy of the initial proposed plan. A private developer, along with landscape architect Stephen Victor are hoping to demolish all 60 acres to build 190 units with a club house, pool and large parking lot. Ryan Homes has already decimated 75 acres of adjacent forestry for another development. Little Deer Creek runs through this property and is a tributary of the Allegheny River. A drainage basin had to be put in for the first development, as impurities from excess runoff water were polluting the water. A Clean Water Act has been implemented to document the pollution loads in the stream and the amount of pollution that must be removed to for the stream to become healthy again. The goal of the Clean Water Act is to make Little Deer Creek "Swimable" and "Fishable" again. This proposed development will only be a detriment and an unnecessary strain to the ecosystem.
