The Town of Falmouth is proposing to shut down pickleball at our beloved Swift Park in West Falmouth!

Currently, Falmouth has 2 public outdoor pickleball locations: 4 pickleball courts at Swift Park, and 4 at Nye Park, totaling 8 courts. There are hundreds of pickleball players who use these 2 locations. Swift Park has hosted pickleball since 2014.

Recently, residents at 2 houses near Swift Park complained to the Town about noise, and in response, the Town proposes to paint over the pickleball lines at Swift. Such action would leave just 4 outdoor pickleball courts at Nye Park to serve hundreds of pickleball players. With demand for pickleball courts still growing, it defies logic to reduce the number of public pickleball courts by permanently painting over the pickleball lines at Swift.

As an alternative to Swift, the Town plans to relocate the pickleball players to new tennis/pickleball courts on the Falmouth High School grounds. While any new pickleball courts are a welcome addition (the high school students will use these courts), there is uncertainty over whether pickleball players will be welcomed at the high school or booted out after a settling in period. Notably, the Town did not consult with teachers and parents about potential issues, including traffic jams, equipment storage, and large numbers of non-school adults on the grounds during school hours.

The Town has begun plans to build a large new Pickleball Park at Trotting Park. However, although money was approved for the design of the park, no funding for construction has yet to be approved, and it will be years before this project is completed.

The solution must be to keep Swift Park open for pickleball until the new pickleball courts at Trotting Park are built. Please sign the petition below to demand that Swift Park will remain a public pickleball venue until the new courts at Trotting Park are built.

Thank you,
Falmouth Pickleball Committee

We, the undersigned, oppose the painting over of pickleball lines and any further restrictions on playing pickleball at Swift Park until the new Pickleball Park is completed.

The Keep Pickleball at Swift Park petition to Falmouth Select Board was written by Falmouth Pickleball Club and is in the category Sports at GoPetition.
