Proposals to meet spending pressures, tackle a £66 million funding gap over four years and freeze Council Tax have recently been unveiled by Leicestershire County Council.

As part of this, the Council is proposing to remove the subsidy it currently gives to Leicestershire Arts in Education - funding which is vital for the running of the centre's varied programme.

Please sign this petition to ask the Council to reconsider their decision.

In response to the recently published proposals to balance their budget, we ask Leicestershire County Council not to remove their subsidy for Leicestershire Arts in Education.

We appreciate that the Council has many considerations in setting its budget, but feel that funding for an educational resource as strong as Leicestershire Arts must be maintained.

Through Leicestershire Arts in Education activities young people build skills, confidence and talent in areas beyond the core curriculum, which can be greatly beneficial to their development. The opportunities that the centre gives to the young people involved are often not offered by state schools and many would not have access to such activities otherwise.

The programme of creative arts education offered by Arts in Education is thorough, inclusive, wide ranging and very high quality. This service is a unique cultural and educational resource that Leicestershire should be incredibly proud of, and endeavour to support and build, rather than scale back.

We implore you to reconsider this proposal, so that future generations will continue to enjoy and benefit from Arts in Education activities.
