Lives were tragically lost in the recent fire at Newquay. Despite the fact that this major incident showed Cornwall's fireservices are already overstretched, Cornwall County Council is refusing to rule out going ahead with cuts to 24 hour firestations in Falmouth and Camborne.
The petition we started in January 2007 was submitted as part of the formal consultation which showed local people don't want these cuts to go ahead. Sadly senior County Councillors do not appear to be listening and we feel it is necessary to start the petition again. We will submit this petition to Cornwall County Council when they next meet to decide future fireservices.
The problem here is not government funding for the council which increased by £6.3 million this year. Don't let the Liberal Democrats make Cornwall the only UK county with no 24 hour firestations.
Hosted by Gopetition, promoted by Charlotte MacKenzie on behalf of Cornwall Labour Party, both at 1 Cornwall Terrace, TRURO, TR1 3RT.
