Keep Cinema Local was established in 2001 as part of a campaign to keep open the cinema on Whiteladies Road. We are still passionate about this fantastic local resource and the role it should play in our community.

It was a great cinema and it should be again. It's terrible to see it closed and falling into disrepair while repeated, unsuitable planning applications try to undermine its character, appearance and function.

This group has been created to help you take action to keep the cinema safe from inappropriate development. The cinema needs your support and it needs it NOW.

We, the undersigned, would like to lodge our objections to Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent Applications 12/00067/F and 12/0068/LA (in respect of Whiteladies Picture House) because we believe they would cause substantial harm to the fabric, character, significance and historic value of this listed cinema building.

The plans fragment the listed assets which will expose them to further neglect and redundancy.

They reduce the amenity value of this historic, public-access building to the whole community and to the sustainable revival of the ‘high street’ on which it stands.

Full details of each of the points made above are laid out, in accordance with the legal framework, by the campaign group Keep Cinema Local in their official letter of objection.
