Keep Cervical Cancer Screening for Alberta Women at existing labs in Lethbridge, Red Deer & the U of Alberta
- Target:
- Alberta Premier and Minister of Health and Wellness
- Region:
- Canada
The government of Alberta wants to remove the Liquid Based Cytology Cervical Cancer screening labs from Lethbridge, Red Deer, and the U of A Hospital.
Doing so will move cervical cancer screening tests to private labs in Calgary and Edmonton, with more delays in terms of days to get results back. It will also create a backlog of tests being processed in these private labs.
Women's Cervical Cancer screening is not an area to cut back on!!
Lethbridge and Red Deer serve not only their respective cities but also the rural areas.
The lab at the U of A Hospital trains future technologists and physicians.
Alberta WOMEN need to let the premier know that removing these labs will reduce effectiveness of cervical cancer screening for all Alberta Women.
Doing so will move cervical cancer screening tests to Calgary, with less effective technology and more delays in terms of days to get results back. It will also create a backlog of tests being processed in Calgary and area.
Dear Premier Ed Stelmach,
We the undersigned WOMEN and MEN of Alberta, call upon you to keep the Liquid Cytology Cervical Cancer screening labs in Lethbridge, Red Deer, and the U of A Hospital.
Removing this newest technology and replacing it with less accessible technology in private labs is unacceptable. The Canadian and Albertan governments have committed to enhancing women's health care not reducing it.
It would behoove you to keep this newest screening technology where it is along with its doctor training program at the U of A.
Signed,
The WOMEN and MEN of Alberta, Canada for fair and equal Cervical Cancer Screening.
