The long overdue regeneration of Rodney Parade, the home of the Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport RFC, is believed to be starting at the end of the season 09/10.
From plans submitted to Newport city Council on 28th May 2009, a 15,000 capacity stadium (with standing for 2000) is to be built.
It is felt, by a large majority of fans attending Rodney Parade, that a larger terrace should be available for those wishing to stand to watch the rugby. At present at least 70% of match day attendees use the terraces and not the Hazell Stand.
We, the undersigned, wish the Board to reconsider the plans for the redevelopment of Rodney Parade and allocate terracing for more than the planned 2000 spaces.
Terracing allows fans to group which creates more atmosphere and to have terraces on both sides means louder support from both sides of the pitch for our players and conversely make it harder for opposition players.
An increase in terracing will ensure that all those using the terracing at present can continue to do so and can also be used to attract new fans to the Stadium.
