Workers at Borders have had their jobs put on the line as the company has gone into administration.
Borders is a family-friendly bookstore where many of the workers have spent years devoting their time and efforts to running the stores. Now, with virtually no notice, they are being shown the door.
At a time when unemployment is now at 2.5 million, and when billions of pounds have been handed over to banks to "save the economy", it has now been seen fit to throw over 1100 people out of their jobs.
This does not only have an effect on workers at Borders, but also a knock-on effect on other peoples jobs in the many companies that depend on them - Faber and Faber, Turnaround and Initial to name but a few.
It is unacceptable that yet more working people across the country are losing their jobs, whilst owners are walking away with money in pocket.
We, the undersigned, show full support for the workers in the fight for their right to work.
We demand that the administrators show full accountability for the security of these peoples jobs, and, if necessary, for the government to take responsibility and assure that these people do not become another statistic of unemployment.
