Justice for Families and Survivors of Sexual Abuse in Norristown/Justicia para Familias y Sobrevivientes de Abuso Sexual en Norristown

Norristown families have reported cases of sexual abuse and are being dismissed with little or no investigation, as well as being met with victim-shaming, intimidation, and verbal abuse. Norristown Police and the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth are failing the individuals that they are meant to serve and protect. When abuse is ignored, survivors are silenced and cycles of trauma and abuse continue in our community. This is not an isolated incident and these failures represent a systemic breakdown that includes negligence, active harm, and a lack of accountability that puts the entire community at risk. Vulnerable families in Norristown, including those who are undocumented are especially at risk. Every survivor deserves justice, safety, and to be heard without fear or additional trauma. Because of this, we are calling for an independent audit and investigation of Norristown Police and the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth, accountability measures for staff and officials who mishandle or abuse victims and families who come forward, mandatory sensitivity and trauma-informed training for all police and OCY staff handling sexual abuse cases, safe and accessible reporting channels for all families, including protections for undocumented community members, and the creation of a community oversight board to monitor sensitive cases and ensure transparency. Every survivor deserves justice and to be heard without fear or humiliation.
