John Mica, End the BP Backdoor Bailout

BP, which is supposed to be paying for the cleanup in the Gulf, announced last week that it plans on writing off $10 billion in expenses related to the clean-up on its U.S. taxes, shifting financial responsibility for the clean-up to us, the taxpayers. In short, BP plans on creating a taxpayer funded backdoor bailout for themselves.

The idea that BP has decided to engage in a sleight of hand, backdoor bailout to abscond with our tax dollars is nauseating. Taxpayers are not responsible for the disaster in the gulf, and we shouldn’t have to pay the bill either.
