Increase Broward County School Funding to Support Art & Athletic Programs
- Target:
- Local Officials and Florida Legislators
- Region:
- United States of America
The Broward County public school system is the sixth largest school district with over 260,000 student in over 260 public schools. For the 2011-2012 school year, Broward's general school operating fund was 1.9 billion dollars. That's 141 MILLION dollars LESS than the previous school year. That is the biggest budget deficit than any other in the state.
We feel that children thrive and will greatly benefit by increasing our local funding by even 3% which is 4.5 million dollars more which should go directly to the arts and athletics programs at the schools.
Keeping children involved in arts and athletics programs has been proven to improve their social awareness for themselves and for a team, responsibility for self and others, and keeps them busy and away from drinking and drugs.

We, the undersigned, call on our local and state representatives to fight to increase school funding in Broward County for both arts and athletics programs.
We request that our local representatives go back to the state government and our governor and fight to increase the budget by at least 3% specifically for arts and athletics to keep our children involved in positive mental and physical activities.
