In the face of incredible development pressure in 2006, the county responded by beginning to draft new development regulations.
However a history of economic struggle finds the county reluctant to include language that would prohibit indiscriminate development.
Citizens have asked for sustainable growth over under-managed - resource irreverant development. Citizens believe while we should address the economic demands of operating government, it should not be at the expense of the environment, or result in the loss of resource lands.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, HEREBY CALL UPON THE PEND OREILLE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AND PLANNING COMMISSION TO WRITE REGULATIONS THAT BETTER SAFEGUARD PEND OREILLE COUNTY AND HER PEOPLE FROM:
The harm to quality of life, rural character, the environment, the loss/conversion of agricultural and timber resource land, threat to water quality and drinking water supply, decline in boating safety, harm to fisheries, degradation of scenic view corridors, loss of wildlife and riparian habitat and disruption of land use continuity that comes of under-managed development.
