Improve Parking at St. Edwards University

Description of the Problem: This petition is to request that the St. Edwards University Administration, or the St. Edwards University Police Department improve the parking situation.

Beginning of this semester, Fall 2005, the University has removed the majority of the Moody Hall parking lot, and has assigned that area as "Centralized Visitor's Parking" By doing so, they removed approximately 30-40 spots, and has forced commuters, staff, and faculty that had parked there into other areas.

No new areas have opened since last Spring semester, and to compound this problem, the University has also recently removed parking along the curb across from Fleck Hall, and parking along the curb along the road next to the Fine Arts Building. Although St. Edwards has claimed to expand the campus, they have only expanded the campus in respect to residence halls, as Dujarie was opened this semester, and a new residence parking lot was provided.

As for commuters, staff and faculty, a large part of the University community, they have had parking taken away, and parking spaces have not been replaced in any other part of the campus since the Spring semester in correct proportion to the expansion of the campus. By signing this petition, we, the community of St. Edwards University, demand that the people responsible for this atrocious injustice realize the importance of this part of their community, their family, and to improve parking conditions at the University campus. Because of the lowered parking spots for commuters, many students have had to resort to drastic measures. Commuters (faculty, staff, and students)now come nearly an hour early to get parking spots near the buildings, since the Moody Hall parking lot had been taken away.

Others have gone to the dirt parking lot, to try and find a spot among it, to find that because the lot is not marked with lines for parking, nor is it paved, many cars have ended up parking inefficiently (taking two spots), and having to walk through the health hazard of the dust and dirt. While others have gone to the "far" parking lots to find them full, and resort to parking along Woodward, or other nearby streets.

By signing this petition, we demand that the persons responsible fix this problem concerning parking, and to not continually put off adressing the problem.
