Improve Gwinnett County Dog Park (Ronald Reagan Park)

The Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation Department started a much needed improvement plan for the large dog park. It consisted of the following:

- Fenced off the wooded area between the small dog gate and the large dog gate to create a separate play area.
- Closed the existing large dog area in order to seed new grass and allow for time to grow new grass.
- Re-opened the large dog area once the new grass started to grow.

While improvement was much needed in the original large dog area, there's much concern about the work that has been done that has not been addressed:

- Improvements to drainage for better water control. Depsite having new grass, the original large dog area is still a swamp.
- The new play area needs to have regular mulch or pine straw distributed in order to keep the area from becoming muddy.
- Water fountains that work properly and/or additional water fountains added to the play areas.
- Lighting added for extended play hours so that the dog park can be enjoyed year round.
- Additional seating for owners
- Easier access for special needs.

The County Parks Department has been asked to make long-term rennovations and correct the mistakes of this park since it was the first built. We'd like the Parks Dept to better understand how we'd like to see the parks expanded, taken care of and what efforts we are willing to engage to assist in the renovations and upkeep; however, they have not been interested in working with the residents.
