Implement Mandatory Environmental Education for New Students at the University of Colorado, Boulder!
- Target:
- CU New Student & Family Programs
- Region:
- United States of America
The University of Colorado at Boulder has a goal to reach 90% diversion of waste from landfills or incinerators by 2025. This is a difficult goal to complete, especially when most incoming students have not had the necessary education on what goes into landfill, recycling, and trash. A lot of waste has been disposed of in the incorrect receptacles, resulting in even more waste heading to landfills. To remedy this, we believe that every incoming student should have the knowledge required to dispose in the correct containers. Let’s help CU Boulder reach its sustainability goal!
We, the undersigned, want to see a section added to the new student welcome experience regarding necessary information for correct waste disposal. There should be a short informational on what is compostable, recyclable, and what cannot go in either and should be sent to the landfill, as well as a short quiz. We believe that this would increase the accuracy of disposing of waste in the correct receptacles.
